Clonalis House - ancestral home of the O'Conors of Connacht
Nestled in a crescent of cypress and redwood trees and overlooking a parkland of oak and copper beech, sits Clonalis House a wonderful Irish Country House and ancestral home of the O'Conors of Connacht. The family here are direct descendants of Connacht's traditional ruling dynasty and in the 12th Century AD, of Ireland's last High Kings.
In a house filled with a friendly, family atmosphere, such historic heirlooms as the Family's Coronation Stone and Carolan's Harp blend easily with the aroma of turf fires. While Clonalis still remains very much a family home, we welcome guests to stay and share its unique heritage and history. We offer guest accommodation through ensuite bedrooms in the main house and self-catering cottages in its Courtyard.
The present house at Clonalis dates back to 1878 but the expansive parkland over which it looks has been in the possession of the Family for over 1500 years. A late Victorian Italianate residence, Clonalis is widely regarded as one of the most historic of Ireland's Great Houses.
Clonalis Estate is situated on the outskirts of Castlerea, Co Roscommon and borders the Counties of Galway and Mayo.
